Camp Serve

Camp Serve Day 5

Today, August 6, we started off the day by playing some Pre-games in the game area.  Then we all joined and sang some wonderful songs with everybody.  After that we watched the slide show from this fantastic week together, and we did every body's favorite part of the day, COLOR WARS!!!
Today Devin and Loran did the Color Wars.  The Color War today was "Who Can Like The Plate Of Whipped Cream Clean Fastest".
And finally it was time to go out in the community and Serve!  Today we went and helped an Elderly Lady who had Arthritis and couldn't do much, so we helped her by weeding her front and back yard, cleaning windows, picking up sticks, and changing light bulbs.  And then she had us stay and have some snacks. Then sadly we had to leave.
But now it was time to go and eat lunch, talk about our week, and share many laughs at Lake Nokomis.  And then it was time for club where we had water games.  We played Drip Drip Drop (Duck Duck Gray Duck), Ships Across the Ocean (with water), and Wear the Shirt where you had to soak a T-Shirt in water and wear it then run around a cone and bring it back.
Time for Zones!  And again we chose to go swimming in the lake.  When suddenly we were interrupted by a 15 Minute safety break.  But no worries, we had an extra 10 Minutes to swim.
Then we ended the awesome week with a game off Train Rock Paper Scissors, a "You Rocked My Socks Off" session, and a Hallelujah session, and a few Prayers.  But of course we can't just leave like that so 4 people were chose to pie the Counselors in the face with more Whipped Cream!!!!

Camp Serve Day 4

Today at Camp Serve~~

Our crews first arrived to a mayhem of shirt selling.  It was very busy and had a large line, but after everyone had purchesed their (very cool might I add) shirts we headed over for some game time.  Purple competed against other teams through some silly compations.  Bergan impersanated Stevens impression of a goat, Lizzie danced on her head and Curtis (from another team) burped, loudly. Then we headed to club. We sang, we played we competed and we were ready to serve.

Today for our servise project the purple team did two things. First we sorted markers..... Exiting! Our team was surprised about how much fun it was. Then we made some more sandwiches for another homeless shelter, Harbor Lights in DT Mpls. When we went to go get a tour,  a small problem accoured...  After bringing blue down our tour guide was comming up back to get us when the elevator broke. While we waited for them to get her out we played games such as mini ninja and stand up.

We finished the day with collecting the food bags we dropped of on tuesday. We didnt have much luck

Camp Serve Day 3

Today we all met at our church, and then we drove to Camp Serve.  When we arrived at the camp site, we played games, sang songs, and did the color wars.

After that, we started serving at the Care Center/Nursing Home in Richfield.  Some of us played instruments, and others visited with the elderly. We saw many people with lots of different and interesting stories.

We saw a comedian who was pretty funny J, a man who had a job as the scoreboard man at football and baseball games, and one lady named Judy, who said that we brightened up her day and that she was very thankful for us to come visit her. That opened our eyes to see how much we can do for others just by doing simple things like stopping in and saying hi.

We all left the Care Center when it became lunch time, and headed to Lake Nokomis for lunch, Zone Time (most of us chose swimming with Lane), and more fun games. We finished our third day of Camp Serve with “Rock, Paper, Scissors Tag”, “You Rocked my Socks off”, and Halleluiahs to show how thankful we are to God.

We were all disappointed when we had to leave since we had such a great day at Camp Serve.  We can’t wait until tomorrow!!

Camp Serve Day 2

Today we started off meeting at our church and then driving to the home base.  Then at 9:00 we played games and shortly after, we went to club and did various things such as singing, color races, and praying.  After club a few church groups drove to Oliver Church to serve in a different way than Monday.  There were three jobs:weeding and sweeping, stacking and dusting chairs, and garage cleanup.  After our morning service project we met for lunch and discussed our next service activity.  We went to neighborhoods with our color groups, split up, and went door to door to deliver bags for food for the food shelf pickup on Thursday.  It was a long walk in the hot weather, but one of my favorite parts of the day.  We jumped through sprinklers, met people, and worked together.

When the bags were almost gone we drove back to base camp. We hung out and finished the day with signing our name as an extraordinary person that can do amazing things.

Something that opened my eyes today, was the opportunity to see the VERY different people within the neighborhood we were in.

God works in wonderful ways. It was a great day!

Camp Serve Day 1

Today at Camp Serve~~~

Us campers arrived at 8:30 eager for our first day of camp. We headed towards Hope Presbyterian Church in Richfield. Staff greeted us and welcomed us to come and enjoy some fun games such as" Ninja" and "Stand Up." We then headed to the Club Time to enjoy some worship. We sang songs and learned a bible story about a blind man that got his eyes oppened. Then we tried experiencing what it was like with our eyes closed and missed out on an awesome goat impression...

After worshiping we got into our color groups. Jacobs Well was with another church, Faith Covenent in Burnsville. We watched a video about being homeless in MN called "Land of 10,000 Homeless." We explored questions about how we think of homeless people and what we can do to help them out. We made turkey and cheese sandwiches (which many of our campers thought looked very good)  and headed out to the Simpson Shelter For Men. We gave them our sandwiches and got a tour.

We luckily got to go back to Edgewater to change (instead of changing in a Port-A-Potty)  into our swimsuits and headed of to Lake Nikomis. We enjoyed some tasty lunch and olympic style games. Our purple group, (The Grape Skittles~ thought of by yours truely~ ) won two out of three games. (whoot whoot!!!)  Then we got three choices about what to do for Zone Time. Our group chose to go swimming (along with many others...)  We finished our day with "You Rocked My Socks Off" (simular to snaps), a interesting game of rock paper scissors..., and a round of Halleluiahs to God!

Jacob's Well Middle schoolers had an awesome day at camp serve. We look forward to tommorow!!
