We are the hands and feet of Jesus. jacob's well believes that a life that is focused on ourselves is an incomplete life. Regular giving of our resources (i.e. time and money) is a way to better understand the life that Jesus is calling us to live. These are some opportunities through which the jacob's well community can begin to live out this calling...

Community Emergency Services with Minnesota FoodShare

Located in in the Phillips (Ventura Village) Neighborhood, CES provides services to over 15,000 people annually. It's clients largely consist of low-income households, single parent families, the elderly, mentally/emotionally handicapped persons and recent immigrant groups. Jacob's Well could be involved in stocking and organizing the food shelf, providing cold weather clothing like jackets, gloves and hats, etc or giving financially to help the cause.

*Donations of money are always appreciated, and to find out other ways to contribute, please call 612.870.1125.

Field Community School

This is a very natural partnership for jw, since Field has been providing our gathering space for over a year, and we don't envision leaving any time soon. Options may include after school mentoring, classroom educational assistance for students, sports team help, building and grounds clean up or any additional support. This is a perfect opportunity for an individual or a group.

*Please contact Kris Meyer

Kinship

Kinship of Greater Minneapolis helps children ages 5-15, in need of additional support, to realize their God-given potential through adult friendships. Kinship also provides a unique service opportunity for individuals, couples and families to put their faith into action on behalf of children. The goal of these relationships is to provide children with trusting, positive adult role models. These relationships, in turn, enhance the children's ability to overcome barriers to healthy development. As the holiday season approaches, some of the service opportunities may include KinShoppe (sponsor a family for the holidays, wrap gifts, etc.) or Adopt a Family (provide a meal and gifts for an in-need family) although, there are other ways to get involved. This is another perfect opportunity for individuals or groups.

*To volunteer, you should contact Kinship directly at 612.588.4655 or through the website. For questions/additional information, please contact Curtis at 612.825.2327.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes

The video says it all: "providing food, clothing and dignity to our brothers and sisters in need." Loaves and Fishes is a social outreach ministry to the homeless and indignant working poor. They travel around to areas with meal trucks and feed the needy in that area. With the use of multiple trucks in different areas around the city, MLF has the capability to feed nearly 1,000 people per day! This opportunity is not yet up and running in the Minneapolis area, so we have a chance to get in on the ground level to help make a greater impact.

*If you would like more information about this opportunity visit the website or contact Justin (612.616.1389) or Erin (612.710.1925).

Urban Ventures

They exist to "build successful community within the city through developing youth leadership, strengthening families and creating meaningful work opportunities." The programs of Urban Ventures serve more than 2,500 adults and youth each year. Founded in 1993, Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation strives to be a positive catalyst for neighborhood transformation by offering a supportive hand-up to the least, the last, and the lost of the Central and Phillips neighborhoods of South Minneapolis. The change that has happened in this neighborhood, this area of Minneapolis, has been astonishing. And it was all made possible through the work of volunteers. Urban Ventures began out of a desperate need for hope in South Minneapolis. Hope for lives free of violence… hope for educational opportunities… hope for families… and most importantly, a hope for a brighter future. jacob's well is a part of the hope that Urban Ventures talks about providing for the neighborhood. There are any number of different ways to get involved for both individuals and groups

*if you would like to contact Urban Ventures, you can. Right now, we don't have a contact person for this opportunity. This is forthcoming.

World Vision

World Vision exists to "call people to a life-changing commitment to serve the poor in the name of Christ." World Vision has individual child sponsorship along with community projects. When you sponsor a child, a portion of your money also goes to the village/community in which the child lives to better the entire community and promote unity among the village. World vision targets children in each community which are in the most need of assistance. World vision also loans money to families for “Micro Enterprise Development” without interest or collateral needed to start new businesses. They act globally, assist with disaster relief, and provide the tools to become independent. jacob's well has been working with World Vision for a while. We sponsor an entire village through their community sponsorship program. North Sabe, Mozambique, Africa now has over 20 children/families who have a better chance of making it through the night and waking up tomorrow morning. In the future, as the number of sponsored increases, jacob's well will take trips to North Sabe to see first hand the work that World Vision and jacob's well have been doing together. Lives are literally being saved, and changed.

*There is more information about the project where jacob's well is involved. If you would like to sponsor a child, or would like additional information about our partnership with World Vision, please call Barb at 612.626.4883.
