Is education the answer?
I am so sad at the news today, seeing that another woman at the U of M was assaulted this week. It seems like everytime I pick up the paper or listen to the news there is a story about a young girl being raped or held hostage and sexual abused and I often ask myself "what is the problem here and how can we solve it". What has gone on in these peoples lives that makes them think that it is ok to assult someone for their own pleasure? And the victims, well it is a life long struggle to trust, love oneself, not fall into depression and not be swallowed up with self blame, I could go on and on with the baggage that is attached to being raped or sexual assulted, whatever you want to call it. How do we change this problem that has become a socialital issue, is it early intervention? We talk to kids about sex and protection from disease but do we talk to them about how important it is to be a good sexual being, a respectful one and to know the boundaries or are we talking just about sociopaths here?
